I'm new, and my FN key for brightness has not been working.

Hey everyone. For the past 3 months, my brightness key's have not been working, and I haven't been able to change my brightness through control panel options, either. I have no knowledge of linux or programming knowledge, so I'm wondering if I could have a more step by step/easy walkthru on how to fix my problem? I have the N450 samsung notebook. Much thanks in advance!!
