I have installed the 64bit version of Ubuntu 14.04 on my Samsung NP-P210 AAY1DE,
the function keys for brightness do work, but they have no effect on the brightness,
I can manually change the brightness by using the setpci command,
and I have added the file "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf" with the content:
Section "Device"
Identifier "card0"
Driver "intel"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection
This seems to help, now at least the function keys do change the brightness,
however, from time to time the screen is flickering and brightness is changing by itself and I wonder if I can improve this by using the packages from this site,
are the Samsung packages here compatible to Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit ?
are there other improvements apart from the brightness control ? (like power battery management etc. ?)
