Hi Voria, I've installed Ubuntu netbook 9.04 remix on my nc10, everythink seems to work fine but I have an extremely slow wifi !
I've installed the packages you recommand from your repository, but still the wifi is slow.
Can you give me some advice ?
did you check other wifi networks?
Jaunty (standard release) in nc10 works fine (out of the box) for me in my home wlan, and in many other wlans, but it behaves strangely in my local library wlan:
Wlan is wery slow.
Wlan is much faster. Close to local broadband roof.
Perhaps these experiences would help woRia to fix this issue?
studied the slow wlan in local library today. An error message was generated in about 10 seconds after wlan start:
"your current network has a .local domain, which is not recommended and incompatible with the Avahi network service. The service has been disabled"
What is this? Is this actually something else than a wlan issue?
Avahi will not start if a .local domain is present
The avahi-daemon package, which implements the mDNS "zeroconf" standard, includes a check to avoid running when a conflicting .local DNS domain is present. It is reported that some ISPs advertise such a .local domain on their networks, which will leave Ubuntu 9.04 hosts unable to see names advertised on the local network (327362).
To force the use of mDNS on a network configured this way, users can run the commands:
sudo sed -i -e'/AVAHI_DAEMON_DETECT_LOCAL/s/1/0/' /etc/default/avahi-daemon
sudo service avahi-daemon start
Changed in avahi-default 1 -> 0, and the said error message disappeared. But the occasional slow telecom speed in library wlan remains.
