Thanks for the info, I was unaware of the fact that the package for lpia does not contain the ath5k module.
I hate the lpia architecture even more, day after day. :p

Well, tomorrow I'll check the config files used to compile the kernel.

New kernel on the repository, version 2.6.31-3.19~ppa1~nc10~jaunty.

My changes from the original package:
Code:
* PPA upload for Jaunty.
* Use i915.modeset=0 as default.
* Enable ath5k on lpia.

Seems that the NC10 kernel package still points to the 2.6.30 kernel that was removed.. So that one doesn't work anymore.

No, it has been updated. Make sure to reload the sources.list with
Code:
sudo apt-get update

then try to update the 'nc10-kernel' package again.

Ok, that helped, everything is running smoothly and updated. These are the things that happen when changing OS'ses, guess I still don't know exactly the rationale sometimes. So thank you again: this forum has helped me realise how good Ubuntu really is and I am now actively spreading it to other NC10's and laptops.

It's a pleasure to read comments like yours, good feedbacks are the best rewards sometimes. ;)

New kernel 2.6.31-4 on repository (based on vanilla kernel 2.6.31-rc4).
Note: the issue with the webcam is still there.

This Kernel is working perfectly :) Can't confirm the webcam issue in this version, Cheese is workin fine. aMSN works with webcam too, but did also before with <2.6.31-4.
So big thx for all your work that makes our netbook life easier ;)

edit: Maybe you could disable NMI-Watchdog at your next Kernel-Compile? It's causing problems with the Virtualbox-Kernel-Module. Shows error while booting, when System booted Virtualbox doesn't start so i have to load the module manually (modprobe vboxdrv). After this Virtualbox works like it should.

Boot-Error

Code:
kernel: [   27.333092] vboxdrv: Trying to deactivate the NMI watchdog permanently...
kernel: [   27.333106] vboxdrv: NMI watchdog either active or at least initialized. Please disable the NMI
kernel: [   27.333111] vboxdrv: watchdog by specifying 'nmi_watchdog=0' at kernel command line.

Another kernel update on repository, fixing the webcam support:
Code:
linux (2.6.31-4.22~ppa2~nc10~jaunty) jaunty; urgency=low

  [ Fortunato Ventre ]

  * PPA upload for Jaunty.
  * Use i915.modeset=0 as default.
  * Enable ath5k on lpia.
  * Fix webcam support.
...

First - the webcam now works flawlessly for me, like any other component of my NC10.

And also a very big "thank you", voRia, for all your efforts and providing the PPA - it certainly saves all of us endless hours of trying :)

Something is changed in newer kernels and IMO the fault is not in NMI watchdog, but in VirtualBox init scripts.
Anyway, while waiting for an official solution from VirtualBox team (or kernel team, if my opinion is wrong), I'm using this little wrapper script.
It makes sure the vbox service is correctly started, and then starts the real VirtualBox script ('/usr/bin/VirtualBox').

To use it, copy it in '/usr/local/bin' (make sure the script's name is 'VirtualBox') and make it executable.

Firstly, A massive thank you for all your work!!

I regularly use my nc10 on the road with an external hsdpa usb stick, Huawei model E169. This has been working without issue until I recently updated to the latest kernal, via nc10-kernel. The modem is recognised o.k. But won't connect to the network. If I roll back to version 2.6.31-3 I can connect with no problem.

I've just uploaded a new kernel on the repository, version 2.6.31-5 (based on 2.6.31-rc5). Please test it.
@Mellie: if your problem persists even with the new kernel, then the only advice I can give you is to file a new bug on kernel bugzilla to let the developers know about the regression.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try and let you know.

update: Many thanks VoRia, the new kernel sorted the connection problem. :) and 2.2.8 xserver-xorg-video-intel works great. No more screen freezing!! :D

Your work really is appreciated.
