Samsung NF-210 and touchpad

Post by themagni »

Hi guys.

I've got an NF-210 running U:NR 10.10. So far, I've been able to get the Fn keys and wireless and the webcam working. (Those don't work out of the box)

The thing I'd like to get working is the touchpad. It works as a PS/2 mouse, but that's all. The touchpad tools don't work because it's not being recognized as a touchpad.

Any ideas?

Same on my N150. It's just seen as a PS2 mouse. I actually have to disable the touchpad most of the time because it's almost impossible to type with the over sensitive pad and the cursor jumping around.

I have the same problem with my SF310-S53 laptop. I've just submited a bug report against kernel since it doesn't seem to recognize the touchpad. If this bug affects you, please, go there and reflect that. This will make the bug more likely to be fixed soon.

Unfortunately, the synclient commands only work when a synaptics touchpad is detected. The problem here is that the touchpad is detected as a logitech mouse, so synclient just says "no synaptics touchpad detected". Also, I believe that will only work on a N210, which uses synaptics. Current thinking is that the NF210 uses an elantech touchpad (see this bug). :-|

I found the perfect fix. Unfortunately it wont be popular...

I installed windows xp downloaded the drivers from Samsung and hey presto it works perfectly. I also get better battery life and performance all around. Scrolling is smooth and surfing the web is much improved. I tied using Ubuntu Netbook Remix for 5 months and no doubt I'll try it again but at the moment unless you're a real linux enthusiast I would recommend xp. I haven't tried win 7 or jolicloud or any of the other distros but I think it will still involve some tinkering to get a comparable experience to xp.

I should add that it is an ultra stripped down version of xp I'm running. Very little bloat and most of the MS apps ditched.

Now I'm considering reloading UNR 10.10 and making it dual boot.

so you installed a 10 years old operating system - though you had to strip it down. did you own it? have you paid for it? or is it an illegal copy?

for me, the bloated win7 that came with this laptop just was not usable. i do wonder how other customers deal with it after spending 300$ on a machine that is annoyingly slow.

cheers
