New 'gnome-power-manager' package on the repository.
Here is the changelog:
Code: Select all
gnome-power-manager (2.24.2-2ubuntu9~ppa4~nc10~jaunty) jaunty; urgency=low
* Removed "90-Add-guarded-brightness-stepping-functions.patch" and
"91-Using-guarded-and-scaled-stepping-when-dimming.patch"
* Added "brightness-down-fix.patch"
(more info at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=569100)
This fixes
the problem with brightness applet reported by janitor.

New 'alsa-modules' packages on the repository.
Here is the changelog:
Code: Select all
alsa-driver (1.0.20~ppa1~nc10~jaunty) jaunty; urgency=low
* Updated alsa sources to version 1.0.20.
* Applied 'alsa20090509-add-nc10-support.patch' (thanks to Chris Pockelé)
More info about the Chris' patch
here.

The new alsa drivers seem to work bad with the current available pulseaudio.
For this reason, I reverted 'alsa-modules' to version 1.0.18 on the repository.

I'm testing the latest pulseaudio version (0.9.15) and it seems to work good with alsa-1.0.20 (with Chris' patch applied). I'll probably add it to the repository in a few days.
If anyone wants to do some tests too, both alsa-1.0.20 and pulseaudio-0.9.15 are available on
my other repository.
Please do not add this repository on your sources.list permanently. I use it for experiments/tests, and often it contains broken packages.

I have used your ppa for a while now. but Fn-F9 still does not work.
I have the backports installed and NC10-scripts.
I can "sudo wlonoff.sh" and this works and works without a password prompt.
Fn-F9 does not.
xev does show the correct content of Fn-F9 as in page 6 of this forum.
Just not working for me.
Just found the answer under an individual thread.
I needed to enable the "commands" compiz plugin.
All working. Excellent stuff.
Is the lack of webcam fixed in the .30 kernel yet?

Unfortunately, it's not yet fixed.
I'm doing some tests, and it seems that the webcam was broken with version 2.6.30-rc1. It works good with 2.6.29.4.

I gave the .30 kernel a try, and had problems with it :
touchpad becoming "jumpy" and having the following logs in /var/log/messages :
psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 1
bytes away.
had also a message referring to a callback or something like this (don't remember exactly)
==> I reverted back to .28
P.S : thanks for the PPA, the Fn keys work like a charm
P.S 2 : I have a N110 and not a NC10

I'm sorry, I can't help you.
I don't know if NC10 and N110 have the same touchpad. I suppose they are different, because I have no problem with it on my NC10 with kernel 2.6.30.
My suggestion is to file a new bug on kernel bugzilla against kernel 2.6.30, pasting all the info from dmesg related to your touchpad.

can you copy/paste info about your touchpad here? (lspci, lsusb, dmesg.. I don't know yet where to find them, will have a look at it tonight)
I'd like to check if the touchpad is the same

From 'dmesg':
Code: Select all

mine :

[ 9.778911] Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 7.2, id: 0x1c0b1, caps: 0xd04711/0xa00000

what's strange is that the problem is gone..
2 things changed : you updated the kernel in the repository, and I tested the "old" .30 on a fresh xubuntu 9.04 and not an ubuntu (but I doubt it changes anything)

Looking at the changelog from version 2.6.30-rc8 to version 2.6.30-final, I don't see any important change related to the touchpad...
well, this is a mystery that will remain

do you know how I can get Compiz working with Ubuntu 9.0.4 on NC10?

It should work out of the box, just enable it through System->Preferences->Appearance.

Thanks voRia.
One thing I would like to ask, do you if it is possible to make a Kubuntu 9.10 Persistent pen drive?
I have been trying to make a pen drive version to test out the Alpha 4 release.
Please can you help me or direct me to somewhere that this has been done.
Thank you for your time
All the best
