"wireless control is not available"

Hi all,

since a few days it's no longer possible to turn on/off wlan on my NC10 :(.

FN-F9 gives "wireless control is not available", in the Samsung Tools Preferences the options Bluetooth, CPU fan and Wireless are disabled.

"sudo modprobe easy_slow_down_manager" gives:
FATAL: Error inserting easy_slow_down_manager (/lib/modules/2.6.32-23-generic/updates/dkms/easy_slow_down_manager.ko): Invalid module format

I'm not sure what triggered this regression.

Sven

I don't know if anything is changed in the new kernel, I'm using 2.6.32-22 yet.
I'll check it out and let you know. ;)

I have installed the new kernel and have had the same problem.

The problem is probably in the package 'easy-slow-down-manager', which is not correctly rebuilt when a new kernel is installed... I will investigate the problem.

In the meanwhile, uninstall 'easy-slow-down-manager' ('samsung-tools' will be also automatically uninstalled), then reinstall 'samsung-tools'. This solves the problem.

I have the same problem on N210 (kernel 2.6.32-23, installed today) with Wlan, CPU fan control and Brightness control. After this step

only Brightness control is not working . (And ubuntu Brightness applet do not work)

Probably it's the same thing with 'samsung-backlight' too.
Try to reinstall it.

I reinstall 'samsung-backlight' as you wrote. After that, the brightness control is not working only.

Did you reboot after the reinstallation?

Anyway, the package 'phc-intel' is also affected by the problem.
It seems that all the packages using DKMS for automatic rebuilding when a new kernel is installed are affected.

Reinstalling them fixes the problem for me:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall easy-slow-down-manager samsung-backlight phc-intel
A reboot is needed to load the reinstalled kernel modules.

Hi,

I just checked the easy-slow-down-manager package in synaptic and it shows with a gray exclamation mark - wonder what that stands for?

Choosing "Mark for upgrade" from the context menu and then apply resulted in a re-installation of the package.

This fixed the problem.

Thanks for your help.

Probably the package was not installed correctly?
