I'm still a Linux newbie. I have no idea how you "install" that newer driver.

Will it be turned into a "download and install" update one day?

I guess what turbolad is trying to say is that it would be great if voRia could (kindly) update the samsung-wireless package to the newest version of the realtek driver.
I'll second this ;)

Have a look at my posting of 10th November. If there is anything there that you do not understand, post it here.

I suspect it is not as simple as updating the samsung-wireless package. Any existing kernel driver has to be removed as well.

To jowyta,
No, it _is_ actually "that simple". In fact, if you check the beginning of this thread, voRia has updated the package to v14 version of the driver just a month ago. If we new there was a newer version of the driver available, we would have saved him the trouble of updating it again.
Samsung-wireless is just a wrapper on the realtek driver. I would have updated it myself if I had write access to the repository.

I forgot to write a notification here, but I've updated the samsung-wireless package yesterday with the latest realtek driver linked here. ;)

voria's samsung-wireless is packaged for Ubuntu and it might be "that simple" if you use Ubuntu. I use Debian. The steps I took may work for other distros.

However, what we could really do with is the built in kernel drivers working properly, then they would be available for everyone. We seem to be getting progress in that direction. I have just tried a 2.6.36 kernel with the 3 firmware files obtained using Debian's firmware-realtek package (though you can probably get these files from anywhere, they always seem to be identical). The wifi works but I am getting continuous kernel messages which will probably end up making the log files so big that something stops working.

to voRia - great job, thanks.

to jowyta - yes, I see your point. I've already tried to raise the question of coexistence of the two drivers in the thread "Maverick - samsung-wireless conflicts with in-kernel driver", so I'll reply in there.
