prevent the kernel updates when using the ppa (apt-pinning)?

Hi.

Firstly thank you for your efforts,

I actually got my N150 brightness keys working for the 1st time today thanks to you.

All I needed was the easy-slow-down-manager and backlight and the brightness keys worked !

That worked without the need to install the updated kernel packages.

How is it possible to only update the 2 packages but ignore the rest after enabling the PPA?

Speficially I want to ignore the kernel packages if possible,

I have tried apt-pinning but that didn't seem to work (possibly due to bad syntax..)

Can anyone help/give an example of working apt pinning?
