There is a new BIOS version out 11CA. It seems that someone over on the SammyNetbook forum noticed that backlight control with KMS is now working (or at least somewhat) and with suspend and resume.
Perhaps special code isn't need anymore.

BIOS 11CA and brightness control
Re: BIOS 11CA and brightness control
Thanks for the info.
I'm trying to extract the BIOS and MICOM images from the samsung official updater in order to perform the upgrade with the method described here.
I don't know why, the extracted BIOS image size is wrong.
It should be 2MB, but it's like the last bytes are truncated, resulting in an invalid image. And that's odd, because it seems the official updater performs the upgrade just fine.
So, at the moment I'm unable to test it.

That is odd. I used the official updater and it worked just fine.
THe file size is different than for the other releases, but the 11CA file is smaller than the 09CA file (total installer, not BIOS image). Maybe the restructured the file.

Re: BIOS 11CA and brightness control
I have the two extracted BIOS files and used Voria's method above to try to flash using a DOS usb thumb drive. It get's stuck at saving the original BIOS and never gets past that part. I have the 11CA BIOS files though.
Re: BIOS 11CA and brightness control
Actually, it gets stuck at checking the new BIOS image checksum, which is the next step just after the original BIOS is saved. It just the screen not updated anymore.
As I said, the problem is in the 11CA BIOS image which is somehow incomplete.
I'm wondering how the samsung official updater handles the upgrade.

Re: BIOS 11CA and brightness control
Well, hopefully the official updater isn't incorrectly calculating the checksum.
