install it on openSUSE

Post by MoonKid »

Is there a way to install the samsung-tools on openSUSE?

Maybe there is a HOWTO or step-by-step description?

I don't know if samsung-tools has been packaged as rpm for opensuse, anyway you can install it manually from the sources.
Grab them from here, extract them and use the command "make install" (as root) to install it. Also, read the included README file and make sure all the dependencies are installed.

Nice one Polter, the GUI application starts just fine for me on 12.3 and works fairly well. However, my main gripe still persists with the Series 9 NP900X3C - I can't get the backlight working!

I've looked through the help of samsung-tools in the terminal and tried "samsung-tools -b on" to turn it on, but I get the error message "Backlight cannot be enabled." When I look at the status provided by the application, it states that the backlight is already on, but it definitely isn't, even in a really dark room. Any ideas?

I guess that the problem is not with the GUI, but with the driver (samsung-laptop). Maybe your problem will be solved if you install voria's driver easy-slow-down-manager. I will add it to the repository later.
